I find it funny that when you ask a question, certain people ignore the question entirely and seem to think you’re making a statement. No. I wasn’t making a statement. I was asking a question. When you find yourself offended and horrified by questions, I think you need to seriously evaluate the kind of person you’ve become.

A lot of people said that it wasn’t necessarily the fact the Rihanna was a woman, it’s that she was in a domestic partnership with Chris. Others say that if the mane in my hypothetical scenario were small or gay, then the reaction would be the same.
Well, I seriously doubt that a man beating any woman would ever be forgiven by every segment of society, but if you believe that then okay. However, there is a bit of a precedent for the black man hitting a gay white man thing. Remember Will.I.Am punching Perez Hilton? No? That’s okay. Most people have forgotten now. In fact, it was never a big deal. Eminem hit a man across the head with a gun, seriously injuring him. It did nothing but add to his street cred. Jack White brutally beat a man and it was barely covered, despite the fact that The White Stripes were a huge band at the time.
I am not trying to diminish Rihanna’s pain or excuse Chris Brown by simply asking a question about male-on-male violence and how it’s perceived culturally.

-There are over 700 Women’s Studies programs on colleges and universities throughout the United States teaching thousands or tens of thousands of classes from the gender feminist perspective, but not one program or class, teaching men’s studies from the masculist perspective.
-Men are more than a third of the victims of domestic violence (26% of intimate partner homicides), yet are denied service at most tax payer funded domestic violence shelters.
-In contrast, women get every veteran’s benefit a man does, yet comprise less than 3% of combat deaths or casualties and a woman makes the cover of Time magazine (person of the year/2003 standing in front of two men.
-CDC lists male victims of domestic violence at more than 34%, but men injured in Iraq (and all other men) are by law in California excluded from domestic violence shelter services. Only one shelter in Lancaster, CA accepts men and it has been extensively harassed for doing so.

-Men today die on average 6 years sooner than women. In 1920 the variance was one year. The death rates for prostate and breast cancer are similar, but because men die of other things more frequently-accidents ,war, heart disease etc., there are fewer men left to die of prostate cancer. This is akin to saying people from a nation like Zimbabwe are immune to Alzheimer’s- but in fact they die of other things before they can get old enough to contract Alzheimer’s.

But “given the panic that gripped private purse-strings…it is more likely that GM would have been liquidated, sending a cascade of destruction through the supply chain on which its rivals, too, depended.” Even Ford, which avoided bankruptcy, feared the industry would collapse if GM went down. At the time that seemed like a real possibility. The credit markets were bone-dry, making the privately financed bankruptcy that Mr Romney favoured improbable. He conveniently ignores this bit of history in claiming to have been right all along.
Even with hindsight and the amazing results, Romney refuses to admit his “let Detroit go bankrupt” policy was dead wrong.
God, I love this man. I’ve been to his show twice and not only is he hilarious, but one of the smartest people I’ve come across. Always spot on.

See, conservative politicians and their media mouthpieces have gathered around a cauldron in the middle of an oil patch and they’ve filled it with Kenyan dirt and pelican blood and Muslim eyeballs and a whisker from Karl Marx’s beard. They’ve danced nude around the giant pot, with flames licking its sides from the fire beneath it, Grover Norquist and Andrew Breitbart and one Koch or another and Karl Rove and others, adding their own spit and semen to the potion. They madly chanted to gods and ghosts of their crazed conservative forefathers, Reagan and McCarthy and Goldwater and Thurmond, willing into existence a horror, a phantom Obama that fulfills all their rhetorical needs. Oh, no, it doesn’t look like the real Barack Obama in any way, but that’s not the point. Surely, the creature that emerged from the viscous liquid of the cauldron, contorted and grotesque, bears enough of a resemblance that those who merely glance at it will be convinced that it is the same as the real President.

Assuming all of the allegations in the article are true, Carlson and Coglianese fail to do one important thing. They do not rebut or even attempt to rebut any of the reporting that Media Matters has made regarding inaccurate or misleading comments in conservative media. While Carlson and Coglianese obviously want to discredit Media Matters, their article falls far short of this goal. Instead, they only succeed in portraying themselves as disgruntled conservatives who lack the capacity for substantive engagement with Media Matters’s reporting. This sensationalized article does more to discredit Carlson and Coglianese than Media Matters.

Now, I’m not going to automatically assume that these are all true. But ask yourself: how many of them need to be? How many of them need to be true before you have to admit that the way our society is structured seriously disadvantages men, and that this is because of the stereotypes of men which we have an enforce under a patriarchal binary? With any other group you’d be shouting if it were just one or two. So how many do men need, before you’ll listen to them?
